Teaming Up to Make Response to Intervention Work

“The team gave me valuable suggestions of interventions to try.”

“I think our students have made so much progress due to the team approach we use. Our literacy teacher leader, special educator supports and classroom teachers work together in such a collaborative manner to meet each child’s needs. We all know each other’s children and what they need. We trust each other to give ideas and share what may work..."

“My students made significant progress because we were working together and communicating about what each student needed.”

Our elementary teachers were asked, “Based on the data we’ve reviewed today, why do you think our students made progress?” The quotes above are some of their responses. This was part of a survey taken during our mid-year universal screening meetings in January. These meetings are an integral part of our commitment to a Response to Intervention system (RTI). Founder of Leadership & Learning Center Douglas Reeves says, “Leaders who say that they believe in data analysis have the professional obligation to give teachers the time to reflect consistently and frequently on student achievement.”

Here in M.S.A.D. 75 we are committed to working together this way because it promises to be more effective for our students. We have always taken pride in our professionals and their abilities as educators. We are learning that through teamwork, ongoing assessment, and effective instruction, we can help even more students to learn at high levels.

Be looking for more about RTI in our elementary schools in the Spring edition of Foundations coming in early May.
